
Our troop's scouts and scouters have done many things that most troops' have
not. This page highlights some noteworthy accomplishments of which we are
justifiably proud.
2011
Eleven scouts and five scouters participated in a six-day high adventure sailing
voyage on Lake Michigan in three 26-foot sailboats.
Two
scouts served a one-week stint on the
Mackinac Island Governor's Honor Guard. They
follow in the footsteps of former president (and Eagle Scout) Gerald R. Ford, who was one of the
first eight scouts to serve in this capacity, in 1929.
Two
scouts attended the (week-long) National Advanced
Youth Leadership Experience course at the
Philmont Scout Ranch in New
Mexico. This is the highest level of leadership training offered to youth
boy scouts.
Two scouts attended the (week-long)
National Youth Leadership Training course.
The troop Webmaster and a scout served on the staff of the (week-long)
National Youth Leadership Training course.
Six scouts served on the staff of the
Gerber Scout Reservation Summer Camp.
While nearly all of our scouts go on to college, of particular note this
year was that eight former scouts were attending extremely selective schools: seven former scouts
were attending the University of Michigan, while one former
scout was attending the University of Notre Dame. Six of these eight
exceptional scholars
are also Eagle Scouts.
The troop Webmaster was recognized as the "Boy Scout Leader of the Year" for
the Lakeshore District.

a six-day course at New Mexico's Philmont
Training Center.
2010
Six scouts earned the Eagle Scout Rank. With
these scouts, the troop's cumulative total (since its genesis in 1960) is now
100.
Several
scouts served a one-week stint on the

Training Center.
2009
Five scouts earned the Eagle Scout Rank. With
these scouts, the troop's cumulative total (since its genesis in 1960) was
94.
One scout was awarded the "Troop 147 BSA Scoutmasters' Exceptional Excellence Award
in Memory of Mark A. Van Lare". This is just the third time it has
been awarded since 1989 and only the seventh time in the history of the troop.
This award is the highest recognition awarded by Troop 147.

Presbyterian God and Service
Award for at least five years of
superior service to the troop and to his church.
One
scouter was awarded the
Episcopal Saint George Award for at least five years of superior service to
the troop and to her church.
One
scouter was awarded the
Presbyterian Celtic Cross religious award for adult leaders who have given
exceptional service to youth.
One scouter continued as our local
district's Boy Scout Roundtable
Commissioner and
one scouter served on his staff.
One scouter served
as a Unit
Commissioner.

One
scouter was awarded the
District
Award of Merit.
One scouter earned the Commissioner's
Arrowhead Honor.

2008

scouts and one scouter went on an 11-day High Adventure backpack trip to the
Philmont Scout Ranch in New
Mexico, accompanying another Michigan troop.
Six scouts served on the staff of the
Gerber Scout Reservation Summer Camp.
Two scouts went on a nine-day
High Adventure canoe trip to the Northern Tier National High Adventure Base in
Minnesota.
Seven scouts and two scouters went on a seven-day High Adventure backpack trip to Ontario's
Bruce Peninsula. The trip
covered 32 miles over the most rugged and picturesque portion of the Bruce Trail
that follows the edge of the Niagara Escarpment.
One
scout attended the six-day
National Youth
Leadership Training course and one scouter served on staff.
One scouter attended the six-day
Powderhorn High-Adventure Resource Training course.
One scouter continued as our local
district's Boy Scout Roundtable
Commissioner and
one scouter served on his staff.
One scouter served
as a Unit
Commissioner.
Our website won an award as the best unit website in our local
district.
2007

Our Scoutmaster was awarded the National Eagle
Scout Association's
Scoutmaster Award of Merit "For service with Enthusiasm, Wisdom, Experience,
and Understanding Resulting in a Dynamic Boy Scout Troop Operation".
One scouter earned the
BSA Community
Organization Award, in conjunction with his also earning the
Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal for his service to scouting.
One scouter earned the
Boy Scout Leader's
Training Award.
One scouter qualified as
BSA Lifeguard.
2004
One
scout earned the
United States Heritage Gold Award.
One
scouter completed the six-day
Wood Badge
leadership training course and subsequent "tickets" to earn his
Wood Badge
beads.
